YOP – year 8 – week 27

It has been a relaxing and laid back kind of knitting week this week. No sewing or indeed blocking of garments has happened, but comfort, scrappy knitting has happened in the form of my Christmas Eve cast on. This year I chose to cast on the Northeasterly Blanket on Christmas Eve and for it I’m using just all my scraps and remnants of my Eden Cottage Yarns that I’ve been collecting up in a basket for quite a good while. My knitting time is a lot more free with not deadlines or timelines to be met so now the opportunity has arrived to use up those scraps and a blanket seems the perfect way. None of the other blanket project for scraps caught my attention enough over the last while to tempt me into making one, but there was something about the Northeasterly and the chevron look with the simple and easy join as you go that you enjoy in crochet projects that appealed, add to that the weaving of ends in as you go that there will be no other finishing going to have to happen with this blanket. I’ve been picking it up and down over the last few days as the mood as struck and it’s been such a relaxing project. Of course this isn’t going to be done any time soon but for now I’m going to leave the basket with the scraps and the blanket beside my chair where I can pick it up as often or as little as I want.

The other project that saw some progress was the second Aussie Sunshine sock. I’ve finished working the foot, gusset increases, heel and heel flap and have one remaining repeat of the pattern to work on the leg and then I can work the ribbing. It should be finished and off the needles today, leaving me to cast on a new sock for the new year. I’m also going to be casting on a new garment for the new year. I’ve not fully decided which one but it’s one from my make nine list I showed last week, I need to just check what sweater quantities I have and what pattern they will suit.

The one other job I’m doing before the end of the year is I’m going to go through the two or three project bags that hold wips. I’m going to take a look at them and if they are not something I want, which I suspect I don’t as they’ve been there for the majority of 2018, I’m going to frog them and use the yarn for something I do want.
